The Salem-Keizer Area Transportation Study (SKATS) update of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for Federal Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 through FY 2023 has been released for public review and comment.  A public hearing is scheduled for April 25, 2017.

The TIP is the region’s short range capital improvements program for roads, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, transit, and other transportation elements in the Salem-Keizer-Turner urbanized area.  It includes a description of the regional transportation planning process. It describes the state and federal regulations that guide regional transportation planning, and includes lists of transportation projects proposed for FY 2018 through 2023.  The TIP is developed through a cooperative planning process by SKATS, this area’s federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO).

This document describes how more than $160 million will be invested to support our surface transportation system over the next four years.  SKATS has discretion over programming nearly $40 million in federal funds for FY 2018-2021.  A combined solicitation and project selection process resulted in programming funds for 16 transportation projects including transit, bicycle/pedestrian, intersection, planning, and signal projects.  Regionally significant and/or federally funded ODOT and local projects are also included in the TIP. More information is available, including the draft document, a brochure, (en espanol) an interactive map of the projects (where comments can be made) and a schedule of public outreach events is available here.
