Mid-Willamette
Valley Regional GIS Network Project Web

The
MWVCOG has implemented dozens of ArcView-based
local agency GISs throughout Marion, Polk
and Yamhill counties as part of the Mid-Willamette
Valley Regional GIS Network Project. This
regional effort to extend GIS into capable
and interested local agencies is ongoing.
This
project leverages ESRI's Local Governmental
Startup grant program and the Rural Strategies
Board Rural Investment Fund public sector
grant to implement 15 city GISs. The main
purpose of the GIS Network project is to
maximize business efficiencies in rural
city governments while minimizing the effects
of excessive growth on these same agencies.
This will be done by providing each city
with a productivity tool, a GIS (Geographic
Information System). This tool will empower
city decision makers, staff and citizens
with current information about their community.
The second goal of this project is to establish
the regional "informational infrastructure"
necessary to facilitate additional investment
into the Regional GIS data sets and standards.
The
MWVCOG can also help local agencies with
their purchases of ESRI software and Azteca
Cityworks software.
