Willamette
River Crossing Capacity Study
The
Willamette River poses a major transportation
barrier for east-west travel in the central
Willamette Valley. Within the Salem-Keizer
urbanized area, the only vehicular and pedestrian
crossings of the Willamette River are the
Center and Marion Street bridges in downtown
Salem. During the rush hours, area commuters
are experiencing backedup traffic
on and around the bridge. The Willamette
River Crossing Capacity Study was initiated
to evaluate different ways to alleviate
congestion on the bridge.
