In Fall of 2018, MWVCOG GIS staff updated a youth services needs analysis that was conducted in 2014 for the Boys & Girls Club (B&GC) of Salem. The original study examined where current B&GC and similar service providers were located and determine areas within Marion and Polk Counties that were not being served. The recent update broadened the scope to analyze where the B&GC target populations were without the constraint of proximity to current service providers, and also examined two study areas for their need for services. The study was conducted using data from numerous sources and analyzed using Geographic Information System (GIS) software. The study determined areas in Salem/Keizer, Independence, Gervais, Woodburn, and Stayton contain high concentrations of the Boys & Girls Club target population (age 5-17, low income, and low-performance public schools). The full study report is available here.
