Transportation Planning performed by the Council of Governments includes staffing for the Salem-Keizer Area Transportation Study (SKATS), which is the designated federal Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Salem-Keizer urbanized area.
COG staff also assist ODOT with transportation planning in support of the Mid-Willamette Area Commission on Transportation (MWACT), which provides recommendations on transportation projects and planning within the MWACT area of Marion, Polk, and Yamhill counties.
COG staff provide the staffing for the Safe Routes to School program in the Salem-Keizer area. Safe Routes to School promotes access to walking, bicycling, and rolling to school for students and families. By providing education, activities, and resources, we work to make it easier for students to choose active and shared transportation options for navigating their communities.
